Reshuffling the Past

February 10 to March 6, 2015

The Art Gallery and the Confucius Institute at Maryland present Reshuffling the Past: 2015 Contemporary Chinese Ink Art, curated by Jin Weihong.

Chinese ink and wash painting is an elegant and expressive art form dating back more than a thousand years. While most collections of Chinese ink painting in major museums in Europe and the U.S. focus on its classic forms, this exhibition, which will next travel to the Roberson Museum and Science Center in Binghamton, N.Y., and the Museum of Art + Design at Miami Dade College, highlights modern and contemporary examples. The eight invited artists showcased in this exhibition are currently the leading explorers of ink painting.

Established with support from Hanban, also known as the Office of Chinese Language Council International, the Confucius Institute at Maryland promotes the understanding of China today through the study of Chinese language, culture, ethics and philosophy.

In celebration of this exhibition, there will be an opening reception on Tuesday, February 10th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, in the Art-Sociology Bldg. Atrium. The reception is free and open to the public.
