Think Like a Curator - Creating a Virtual Exhibition

The following lesson was inspired by our upcoming student-curated exhibition featuring art from the Art Museum of the Americas (coming March 2015).

Teach your students how to think like a curator and exhibition designer.  Then allow them to build their own exhibition space in SketchUp – a virtual model building program.  Don’t know how to use SketchUp?  Look for upcoming teacher workshops here

This resource packet includes a lesson plan, Think Like a Curator PowerPoint slideshow, a curator brainstorming worksheet, an exhibition designer brainstorming worksheet, and a SketchUp Quick Guide sheet.  A downloadable model of The Art Gallery’s space, created using SketchUp is available here.

This lesson is meant for high school students but can be adapted to middle school students.  Interested in having The Art Gallery teach your students SketchUp?  Contact Katie Coogan at ksl@umd.edu
