Art For Feds

Wednesday, January 30, 2019 - 17:00 to 19:00

Dear Furloughed Friends in the Washington, DC area:

I want to personally invite you to be my honored guests at the opening of Here and Now: Recent Acquisitions on Wednesday, January 30th, 5 pm to 7 pm. Bring your families for an evening of free food and complimentary wine and beer. (While supplies last.) All are welcome!

It is my sincere hope that this evening allows those affected by the Federal shutdown to have a moment of enjoyment and pleasure during very difficult and trying times. While the University of Maryland Art Gallery's operations are not directly affected by the shutdown, we nonetheless have an ethical obligation to go above and beyond by making art and culture accessible to all when our colleagues on the National Mall are prevented from doing so.

UPDATE: The White House announced late Friday, January 25th, that President Trump had signed a short-term spending bill into law, a three-week stopgap bill that will reopen the Federal government through February 15. Indeed, this is welcome news for affected employees and their families. Regardless of the government being reopened, I along with my staff look forward to welcoming all previously furloughed Federal employees at our opening reception on January 30th. -TWM
