Creative Copyright with Adam Holofcener, Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts
Monday, November 9, 6–7 pm
FREE and open to the public

As an artist (painter, musician, poet, actor, writer, photographer, dancer, filmmaker, game designer), or a person who works with artists, you are constantly interacting with copyright law whether you like it or not. Get an introductory look at how copyright works, when to get a copyright, how long copyright lasts, benefits of registering your copyright, strategies for interacting with the copyrighted work of another artist, and the painful consequences of infringing on someone else’s work. You will start to see the copyright implications in your own artistic practice and become better able to determine when you should get legal assistance concerning your work.
Guest lecturer Adam Holofcener is a musician and advocate for artists rights, both in and beyond his role as a practicing attorney and Executive Director of the nonprofit organization Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (MDVLA). He lives in Baltimore, his hometown, and is a graduate from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
